UNDERSTAND YOUR CRB STATUS
Check and Understand Your CRB Status
Your status is a starting point. The full credit report helps explain what has been reported and what, if anything, needs attention.
Start with the full picture
A CRB status can tell you whether your profile appears to be in good standing or has information that may need attention. For decisions such as resolving an error or preparing for a loan, the fuller credit report is usually more useful because it shows the accounts and information behind the status.
Kenya’s credit-information system is regulated by the Central Bank of Kenya. Consumers can obtain their credit information directly from licensed credit reference bureaus.
What to check on your report
Read beyond a simple good/default label. Confirm that your personal details are correct, that every account belongs to you, that balances and repayment information look current, and that settled obligations are reflected appropriately.
- Your name and identification details
- Credit accounts and reporting institutions
- Balances and repayment history
- Any adverse or default information
- Credit score or risk indicators where provided
If something looks wrong
Do not pay anyone to “erase” accurate negative history. If information is inaccurate, duplicated, fraudulent or outdated beyond applicable rules, use the lender or bureau dispute process and keep supporting evidence.
If the information is accurate but a payment or settlement has not yet been reflected, ask the reporting lender and bureau about an update rather than presenting it as an accuracy dispute.
